Hope
this finds you well. Things are great here in our little world.
Jacob
is having a much better year in 3rd grade at Jacksonville Beach
Elementary School. He still loves to fish, scuba dive, mountain
bike and play outside with the neighborhood boys. He had a few big
“solo” adventures during the year (meaning without Alex). First,
I took him to Washington DC in May for a few days (as a reward for
surviving his sucky 2nd grade class), and we had a terrific time
just being tourists. Then Todd took him on a “Father’s Week” sailing
trip to the Bahamas the week school was out with two other fathers
and their sons. They sailed from Miami to Bimini/Cat, Chub, Lower
Berrys, Northern Berrys and Bimini/Freeport. They had lots of fun
without us moms to boss them around!
Alex
is in Kindergarten at JBE. He is our resident “Sorry” champion and
still loves checkers, chess and card games, where he usually beats
us all. Since he has been riding on two wheels since before he was
four, he is doing very well mountain biking on the trails at Hanna
Park (he’s already better than me!). He also played basketball this
year. We had a fun trip with my mom in April to Wild Adventures
in Valdosta—he loves roller coasters, and my mom and I took turns
riding with him until we were green (which didn’t take very long).
Both
boys have played soccer for several seasons, and also started tennis
lessons and tae kwon do, and they really seem to enjoy it all. They’ve
already moved up two belt ranks (actually we all did but Todd and
I are taking it a bit easy so they will quickly advance past us).
They still love our camper, and we enjoyed trips to the Okeefenokee
Swamp, Ginnie Springs, North Carolina, Ft. Clinch and Hanna Park
(our old standby) this year.
But
just so you don’t think it’s ALL good…on our second day of summer
vacation in North Carolina I slipped at a waterfall and broke my
(right) wrist, my first-ever broken bone (now, a select few of you
will remember the time I had a cast on my leg in sixth grade but
that was torn cartilage, not a broken bone). It took six hours to
get to the hospital and was overall an AWFUL day. Lesson: Hiking
down a mountain with a broken bone is NO fun. But after I got my
cast and plenty of good pain killers, we continued to camp for six
more days. Once we got home, I couldn’t drive or write for six LONG
weeks.
Trust me, your right hand is more important to you than you
think!
We were supposed to spend the month of July in Maine but instead
we baked here in the summer heat, and the boys became addicted to
video games...
The
Harts are good. My brother Bobby is in the midst of his second extended
visit to the desert. He is in Baghdad this time, and I’ve stopped
watching any news because it’s just too stressful. We are posting
his weekly columns this time at www.desertdiary.com.
For those of you who will be watching the BCS Championship Game,
look for a live remote from his unit in Baghdad. Also, "Big
Al" is on his way to Glendale for lots of adventures that FOX
Sports will hopefully be covering. Also, Dustin and Ty are expecting
another baby in June and after six boys on the Hart side of the
family, what are the odds of a girl?
The
Blaudows are doing fine. They are enjoying Key Colony Beach (near
Marathon in the Florida Keys), and this year upgraded Gator Ray
to a 63’ Bertram. It is MUCH nicer than our house!! We had a great
time over Labor Day and just spent a great Thanksgiving in the Keys.
We're looking forward to heading to Harbour Island in the Bahamas
with them after Christmas, then skiing in Breckenridge in February.
Todd’s
business (www.TDIProducts.com)
continues to grow. They successfully purchased their warehouse,
and continue to add new products. I’m still “managing the family
business” and doing public relations work through Hart & Partners.
I’ve developed training sessions for building “brand ambassadors”
and have been doing lots of media and presentation skills training.
I am also going into my fifth year of a panel research company (www.datazoneresearch.com),
and we continue to grow our panel of veterinarians (www.thevetzone.com--
hoping to hit the 5,000 mark this year).
I'm
also continuing to serve on UF’s PR Advisory Council. I agreed to
chair the Work/Life Balance committee, and that has been lots of
fun. After one of our meetings, the boys enjoyed their first Gator
game. Once I got them from their regular seats up to the box where
I was, Jacob’s comment was: “well mom, this is not so bad…” Now,
if we could just score four box seats to the Championship game...
Our
many blessings include our health and lots of wonderful friends
and family. We wish you and yours much love, happiness and good
health in the coming year.
Cheers,
Rebecca, Todd, Jacob & Alex
